Diavik Selected as One of Canada’s Top 100 Employers


Diavik Diamond Mines Inc. (DDMI), operator of the Diavik Diamond Mine, has been selected as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers for 2010.

“This national recognition reflects our strong commitment to workplace excellence and is an endorsement our entire workforce can share and be very proud of,” said Kim Truter, Diavik Diamond Mines Inc. President and Chief Operating Officer.

Diavik is the only employer in Canada’s North selected as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers for 2010. This recognition comes as we begin to hire our underground mining teams for the planned start of underground mine production, due to commence early next year. Diavik, which began rough diamond production in 2003, is currently an open pit operation and expects to complete the transition to an all underground mine in 2012.

As well, employers are compared to other organizations in their field to determine which offers the most progressive and forward-thinking programs.

Diavik and the other winners will receive national recognition this month in Maclean’s magazine and The Globe and Mail newspaper and Eluta.ca online through editorial features covering Canada’s Top 100 Employers, which is coordinated by Mediacorp Canada Inc.

The Diavik Diamond Mine is located 300 km. northeast of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories and is an unincorporated joint venture between DDMI (60%) and Harry Winston Diamond Limited Partnership. (40%). Both companies are headquartered in Yellowknife, Canada. DDMI is a wholly owned subsidiary of Rio Tinto plc of London, England, and Harry Winston Diamond Limited Partnership is controlled by Harry Winston Diamond Corporation of Toronto, Canada. DDMI is the operator of the project.
