Atelier Swarovski launches its sixth collection in collaboration with Matthew Williamson, Zaha Hadid, Jason Wu and Nicholas Kirkwood.
“It is a great privilege to work closely with leading designers from a wide variety of disciplines, from architecture to fashion. Each interpretation of crystal accessory design in this collection is unique and inventive and we are delighted with the results from this season,” says Nadja Swarovski, Vice President International Communications for Swarovski Crystal Business.
Stockists include Selfridges London, Maria Luisa and Colette Paris, Harvey Nichols Hong Kong, Henri Bendel New York, Via Bus Stop and Isetan Tokyo, Corso Como Milan and Seoul.
MATTHEW WILLIAMSON
Matthew Williamsons’ passion for prints and animated geometric designs are combined in his
first Atelier Swarovski accessories collection for spring / summer 2010. Handmade hexagonal
and triangular resin shapes are finely edged in gold and silver, crowned with chequer-board
crystals or decorated with large architectural crystals, some of which are inverted to show their underside. Hues of green, gold and blue, and orange, rose and purple culminate in statement cuffs, necklaces and clutches expressing his love of shape, colour and crystal.
“My Inspiration this season was drawn from the artist Jim Lambie’s work, which is primarily
concerned with the combination of abstracted floral and strong graphic elements. Working with Swarovski, I designed a collection of accessories which articulate these themes. The pieces are oversized to create a statement in a vibrant palette, signature to the Matthew Williamson aesthetic.”
ZAHA HADID
Zaha Hadid is one of the most renowned architects worldwide, celebrated for creating her own architectural language. Her distinctive style is reflected in the organic, fluid shapes of her debut jewellery collection for Atelier Swarovski. Expertly designed to be worn individually and sculpted so they complement each other when worn together, the bracelets, necklaces and rings feature colourful crystals suspended in clear resin. Each piece is available as one of 50 in this exclusive collection.
“This enigmatic new Glace collection celebrates a powerful dichotomy between the purity of
Swarovski’s precision cut crystals and the subtle, organic forms that envelop them.
Each piece within the collection has evolved as an abstraction of the sinuous forms evident in nature, revealing my desire for experimentation and invention throughout every stage of
design and realization.”
JASON WU
New York based designer Jason Wu received international recognition earlier this year when
his designs became a wardrobe staple for America’s first Lady. With a background in sculpture and fashion design and an eclectic upbringing in Taiwan, Canada, Tokyo, and Paris, he combines his elegant style with a colourful flourish for his Atelier Swarovski collection.
Feminine pieces feature necklaces trimmed with ribbon and clusters of crystals decorate
bracelets, rings and earrings in two contrasting colourways, ‘Obsidian’ in jet and ‘Lava’ in
fuchsia, pink and siam. Strands of gunmetal chains lie below luxurious layers of faceted crystal beads to create a textured, defined silhouette.
“”For Spring 2010, I have teamed up with Nadja Swarovski and Atelier Swarovski to create a
collection of jewellery that exhibits the same texture and sculptural details seen in my work.
The pieces are a study in contrast, with exposed chainmail and burnished metal alongside
delicate crystals.”
NICHOLAS KIRKWOOD
Young British footwear designer Nicholas Kirkwood graduated from Central St Martin’s in
Spring 2005 and went on to win the ‘Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent’ at the British
Fashion Awards 2008. His inspirationally simple approach smoothly translates into a
contemporary jewellery collection for Atelier Swarovski. Sharp geometric lines which follow the contours of the body are softened by beautiful leather and edged with tiny pav? crystals. The necklaces, cuffs, rings and earrings are available in three colourways, silver, with pacific opal crystals, gold with light colorado topaz crystals, and gunmetal with jet crystals.
“For my first collection of jewellery, I felt it was important to stay true to the aesthetic that I apply when designing my shoes, sharp but ultimately feminine, this, and a considered diversity of texture”.
