Clark McEwen Appointed as Marketing Manager of Rio Tinto Diamonds as Patick Coppens Becomes Rio Tinto Diamonds Sales Manager


Rio Tinto, one of the world’s leading diamond companies, is reorganising its Antwerp-based sales and marketing management team.
Integral to this reorganisation is the appointment of Clark McEwen to the position of Marketing Manager, reporting to Jean-Marc Lieberherr, Rio Tinto Diamonds General Manager, Sales and Marketing. Clark will be based in Antwerp, effective March 1. Clark brings a wealth of international experience to this role, with a strong knowledge of the entire diamond pipeline, and proven trading, manufacturing, branding and retail skills gained from over 25 years in the diamond industry.
Commenting on the appointment of Clark McEwen, Jean-Marc Lieberherr said, “We are delighted with the appointment of Clark and his experience will be invaluable in continuing to build on the success of the business and drive a competitive advantage for our Select Diamantaires.”
Clark will take over as Marketing Manager from Patrick Coppens who will take up the position of Sales Manager, heading the customer account management team, effective February 1. Patrick’s career with Rio Tinto spans 25 years in a range of sales and marketing positions for both the rough and polished diamond businesses.

Rio Tinto has a global diamond exploration portfolio encompassing six continents and including projects in Canada, India, southern and western Africa, Brazil, Russia and Australia.
Currently, Rio Tinto is one of the world’s major diamond producers through its 100 percent control of the Argyle mine in Australia, 60 percent of the Diavik mine in Canada, a 78 percent interest in the Murowa mine in Zimbabwe and a 100% ownership of the Bunder Project in India.
The sorting, valuation, sales and marketing of all diamonds from Rio Tinto’s mines is located in Antwerp, Belgium, with representative offices in Mumbai and New York and a niche polished pink diamond business in Perth, Western Australia.
Rio Tinto is a leading supporter of the Kimberley Process as well as a founding member of the Council for Responsible Jewellery Practices.
