Diamantaire Laurence Graff, chairman and founder of Graff Diamonds International Ltd, purchased Pablo Picasso’s Tete de Femme at a Christie’s auction for £8,105,250 via an anonymous telephone bid, according to Bloomberg News, who claim to have received an email confirming the purchase.
Pablo Picasso’s T?te de femme (Jacqueline) was the top lot sold at Christie’s 2 February Impressionist and Modern Evening Art Evening Sale in London. The work, a portrait of the artist’s second wife who became the most important of all his Muses and models, sold to an anonymous telephone bidder for £8,105,250 against a pre-sale estimate of £3 million to £4 million.
Laurence Graff recently unveiled the Wittelsbach-Graff Diamond at the Smithsonian’s national Museum of Natural History in Washington DC.
