“KP Participants have occasionally been confronted with the occurrence of fraudulent KP certificates,” says a warning from the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS).
In order to protect the KPCS against the use of fraudulent or counterfeit Kimberley Process certificates, it is recommended that:
KP certificates should be carefully examined and, in case of reasonable doubt regarding the authenticity of certificates, relevant KP authorities be contacted immediately.
KP authorities coordinate and exchange information on KP certificates, and are also encouraged to keep records of allegations of fraudulent or counterfeit certificates.
Trade in rough diamonds is permitted between Participants of Kimberley Process Certification Scheme only on the basis of KP certificates that are valid.
