The Israeli Diamond Industry’s annual press lunch at BASELWORLD held today, revealed the new strategic direction of the industry for 2010. Israel Diamond Institute Group of Companies (IDI) Managing Director Eli Avidar introduced the new campaign: “Responsibility is Good. Business”.
The lunch took place at the Basel Convention Center, in the Osaka – Samarkand Congress Room. As in previous years it was attended by dozens of journalists representing major trade and general media.
The guest speaker at the lunch was Israel’s Deputy Minister of Industry, Trade and Labor MK Orit Noked, who spoke about Israel’s position as a center for world trade, particularly the diamond trade, and the importance Israel places on responsibility in international trade.. Israel is chairing the Kimberley Process during 2010, and the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor represents Israel in the Process.
Deputy Minister Noked said: “Israel was pleased to have been chosen to chair the Kimberley Process during 2010. This emphasizes Israel’s standing as one of the major global diamond hubs.” She said that Israel’s emphasis on responsibility coincides with its chairmanship of the Kimberley Process, especially at a time when the KP faces challenges. She said that Israel will make every effort to strengthen and consolidate the Kimberley Process, in order to prevent its erosion and to maintain its relevance to the industry.
IDI Managing Director Eli Avidar gave a wrap up of “Together Works” IDI’s strategic marketing program for 2009, noting that Israel was the only diamond center to take a proactive marketing approach.
Avidar also said that Israel was the onlyleading diamond hub worldwide that succeeded in contending with the crisis independently, without government credit or assistance. He said that Israel is emerging from the crisis relatively unharmed.
Eli Avidar went on to introduce IDI’s new strategic campaign “Responsibility is Good. Business”, which he said signifies that the Israeli Diamond Industry will act responsibly as it emerges from the economic crisis. “We believe that it is essential now to adopt a policy of responsibility – in prices, marketing, manufacturing, customer services and credit strategies. Our message is that the Israeli Diamond Industry will now be pursuing a very responsible path to renewed growth.” He added: “This means that if you want to build your business in a responsible way, we are your partners for doing business in diamonds.”
