Global diamond production in 2009 was 124,805,436.93 carats worth $8.6 billion, averaging $69.2 per carat.
Some 28% of the global diamond production was from Russia, some 17% from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, some 145 from diamond-rich Botswana, some 13% from Australia, and other amounts from other countries.
Russia accounted for the greatest country in terms of value when it came to diamond production in 2009.
Canada and Botswana each accoutned for 17% worth of diamond production.
In terms of imports, India was the greatest diamond importer in terms of volume, followed by the European Community. This order was reversed in terms of value of the diamond imports with the EC leading the world.
