BARCELONA VS VILLARREAL PREDICTIONS, BETTING TIPS AND MATCH PREVIEWS
REASON FOR BARCELONA VS VILLARREAL BETTING TIPS
Despite a Sergi Roberto red card and a cracking goal from Gareth Bale, Barcelona’s unbeaten league record came through el clasico unscathed and they now have just three matches to negotiate to complete the season without losing in La Liga. This is perhaps the toughest of them, against a Villarreal side that are fighting for a place in Europe.
It’s not just tough because of the opposition but because it comes just three days after the clash with Real Madrid, which was as intense as ever and saw Barca battle on with 10 men for the entire Second Half. Ernesto Valverde will almost certainly rotate a bit here but doubts still linger over many of their back-up players so that certainly plays a little bit into the favour of the visitors.
Villarreal have had a mixed season in many ways and would have hoped to have booked their place in the Europa League by now. Victory here would guarantee that but they will be keen to finish in 5th or 6th as opposed to 7th, in order to avoid a very early start to next term in the qualifying rounds of that competition.
30 points may separate these sides but there is reason to think this could just be a tricky game for Barcelona, largely because Villarreal have a real habit of raising their game against the top clubs. They’ve already won away to both Real Madrid and Valencia this season while they’ve also taken 4 points off Atletico Madrid. They completed a league double over Valencia on Saturday so they head into this game having won 4 of their 6 matches against top four opposition this season.
Villarreal are also in good form overall. They’ve won their last 3 matches and 5 of their last 8 and are playing as well as they have done all term. Carlos Bacca has been in good form in front of goal, while they’ve become a bit more settled in other areas of the pitch.
Barcelona unsurprisingly are still huge favourites for the match. If Messi is on fire and they play as they did in the Copa del Rey final and in spells against Depor, they could still have too much class for Villarreal but in truth they’ve very rarely hit those heights this term. With fatigue perhaps a factor here too and up against a team that is keen to prove again that they can mix it with the big guns, it has the potential to be a tough game for the Catalans.
Overall backing Villarreal +2.0 Asian Handicap looks to offer value.
