NEW YORK RED BULLS VS NEW YORK CITY PREDICTIONS, BETTING TIPS AND MATCH PREVIEWS

The first MLS New York derby of the 2018 season takes place this weekend as Eastern Conference leaders City cross the Hudson River to take on 4th placed Red Bulls in New Jersey.

Last time out, Red Bulls recovered from throwing away a two goal lead to eventually take the points in a 3-2 win away to LA Galaxy. Alejandro Romero scored the crucial winner from the spot with just six minutes remaining, to secure RB’s fourth win from their opening seven MLS fixtures.

The victory was Red Bulls’ first away win of the new campaign – all their other wins so far have come at the Red Bull Arena. Head Coach Jesse Marsch had overseen a perfect start to the season on their own patch before RB’s surprise 1-2 home reverse to Chicago Fire in their last game there.

Nevertheless, three wins from four home contests remains an excellent start and supporters have been treated to a hefty dollop of goalmouth action to go along with the results. In each of Red Bulls’ four games on home turf, over 2.5 goals were scored. We’re expecting similar levels of excitement this weekend.

City got firmly back on track last weekend with a comfortable 3-1 win against Dallas in the Big Apple. The weekend before that, they had come undone in Portland against the Timbers, falling to a resounding 0-3 defeat. It was City’s first loss of the season and remains their only loss in their first nine MLS matches.

Manager Patrick Vieira would have expected his team to be hovering near the top of the Eastern Conference this season and City have collected more points (20) than any other MLS team so far in 2018. City hold an eight point gap over their bitter rivals Red Bulls, though they have played two games more.

In terms of penalty area drama, City have been able to match RB in the excitement stakes. Each of their last five fixtures saw over 2.5 goals scored in them. Only Atlanta United and Sporting KC have scored more times than City so far this term.

City have had the upper hand in the Hudson River derby for a couple of years now. They are currently in the midst of a three game unbeaten run against their urban rivals and we expect them to avoid defeat at the very least again this weekend. Where Red Bulls have shown inconsistency, City have shown a steadiness and Patrick Vieira should be able to come up with a plan to take a positive result at the Red bull Arena. With that in mind, we recommend you take the New York City Double Chance option.

Interestingly, both Red Bulls and City have only failed to score in one of their respective MLS fixtures so far this season. With that considered, along with the teams’ high recent goal averages, we think the both teams to score/over 2.5 goal combination is well worth a bet. Our correct score prediction forecasts a narrow 2-1 win for New York City.
