REASON FOR SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES VS PORTLAND TIMBERS BETTING TIPS
San Jose Earthquakes rotten start to the 2018 MLS season continued last weekend when they were beaten for the fifth time in seven matches at Columbus Crew. A point had looked likely for the Earthquakes, but a goal from Mike Grella six minutes from time turned the score in favour of the hosts.
The Earthquakes are still searching for their first win since their opening weekend triumph over Minnesota United (3-2) in California and their inability to find that victory has seen them slide closer and closer to the foot of the Western Conference table.
San Jose leaned heavily on their form at the Avaya Stadium in 2017, losing just two of their matches there in total, though in 2018 so far they have won just one of their first three on home soil. They did manage to score in each fixture at least, a trend we expect to continue this weekend.
Under the management of new Swedish Coach Mikael Stahre, the Earthquakes would have expected a better start than they have had. They had banked on attacking pair Danny Hoesen and Magnus Eriksson being far more productive than they have been. The duo have plundered five goals between them so far in a combined fourteen appearances.
Portland Timbers put in one of the MLS performances of the season so far last week when they took maximum points against the early Eastern Conference leaders New York City. Timbers put three without reply past Patrick Vieira’s shells-shocked players, to make it two wins from their last two.
The Timbers have little trouble picking up points at Providence Park, though outside Oregon, things always seem to take a darker turn. Portland have played five games away from home so far this term, losing three and drawing the other two.
The Timbers have failed to win any of their last eight MLS matches on the road in total, though we do expect them to grab a point this weekend at struggling Earthquakes. San Jose’s only points from their last seven fixtures have come in singles, in their draws with Philadelphia Union and Houston Dynamo.
Similarly, Portland have only been able to pick up points via draws on their travels so far in ties with Dallas and Chicago. With neither side looking confident enough to push for the win, we’re backing them to share the spoils on Sunday.
We’ve already touched on San Jose’s ability to score in their home matches and it’s also worth pointing out that there were over 2.5 goals scored in each of their last six games at the Avaya Stadium. Portland’s results draw plenty of parallels with that stat – in seven of their last eight fixtures, over 2.5 goals were also registered.
It’s highly likely that we will see the goals fly in again this weekend, so we recommend you back the both teams to score and over 2.5 goal combo. In addition, our correct score prediction is forecasting a 2-2 draw on Sunday.
Football predictions including accumulators, both teams to score, both teams to score and win and correct score!
