As of this Tuesday, August 31, the Government, through the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, will release a total of 477 kilometers of toll roads in Spain, so that from September they will become free for their users.
Specifically, the highway sections that will be free from this date affect 262 kilometers of the AP-7 and 215 kilometers of the AP-2 .
AP-2 : the free section will be the one that connects Zaragoza and El Vendrell , in Tarragona, and that serves as a direct connection with Barcelona.
AP-7 : this highway, which connects the entire Mediterranean coast, will have two free sections as of September 1, the one from Tarragona-La Jonquera (Girona) and between Montmeló-El Papiol (Barcelona).
With the release of these tolls, Transportes calculates a saving for users of 515 million euros per year , taking into account the current 13 million trips. With the expected increase in traffic, said savings could reach up to 752 million euros per year, the ministry indicates.

In the case of Catalonia , the releases mean the total elimination of tolls from the State Roads Network in Catalonia, taking into account that in 2018 it was the community with the highest percentage of paid kilometers, with 52%.
For its part, the release of the 102 kilometers of the AP-2 in Aragon represents a saving of 90 million euros per year and reduces the number of kilometers of toll roads from 19% to 6% with respect to the total of high capacity roads in this autonomous community. In this way, circulating on the high-capacity road network in Aragon as of September 1 will be 76% cheaper for the user.
The Government began the release of tolls in November 2018 with the section of the AP-1 Burgos-Armiñón, followed in 2020 with the release of the AP-7 between Tarragona and Alicante and the AP-4 between Seville and Cádiz; milestones to which the next releases of the AP-2 and AP-7 are now added. In total, 1,029 kilometers of toll roads have been released .
