Catoca Production Expected to Grow 20% this Year

The diamond production of Angolan diamond mining and marketing company Catoca is expected to increase by over 20% over production in 2008, which itself increased by some 23%, says Dr. Paulo Bento, the company’s Director of Planning and Statistics.



Angolan Army Reports Illegal Exploitation of Diamonds Down

The illegal exploitation of diamonds has declined in the Bie province in Angola, says the Chief of the Angolan Army Francisco Furtada. “We should not relax however, confident that the exploitation is declining because these individuals may still one day return to the same locations,” he warns.

Manuel Calado, Chairman of the board of Endiama, Angola’s state owned diamond company, says that an investment of US$100 million must be made by those interested in buying diamonds. Calado, who explains that the demand for precious stones is great, says that those interested in buying diamonds have to comply with a set of criteria.



Endiama Production Expected to be Between 7 and 9 Million Carats in 2009

Alberto Fançony, Director for Planning and Finance of Angola’s state-owned diamond company Endiama says that the company’s diamond production is expected to be between 7 and 9 million carats this year, compared to some 8.9 million in 2008.
